Oh my gosh, you guys. Noragami is SO HARD. This volume is destroying us. I don't even know why it's so hard! It's starting to make me wonder if maybe we're just not on the right wavelength to translate Noragami so maybe we're not the right translators for it. But I WANT to translate it! So we're doing our best! And it's usually not this hard.

There's also the possibility that it's just pressure from being back from Anime Expo, where we had people being all, "Yay! You're great!" so we're all, "Oh. We better be great." And there's just so much wordplay and slang and pop culture references that may or may not be obscure but the point is we don't know them. I feel like we spent about an hour trying to figure out why there was a panel with an arrow pointing to Yato that said "kojika (baby deer)." It was probably only half an hour, so there's that at least.

So yeah. We were hoping to finish this translation tomorrow, but at the rate we're going, we might have to push a little to get it done by the end of the day on Monday. We're just really hoping things get easier in the second half of the volume.

In the meantime, we have a Relief Society activity tonight. We're going to make bracelets!

Today I'm thankful for making as much progress on Noragami as we did, space ice cream sandwiches being pretty tasty, having an activity to look forward to, getting to wear our shiny new Dead Sea Scrolls t-shirts, and Page not messing too much with the settings when she sat on the laptop earlier.

Ahh, that Noragami!! I'm sure you are doing a great job on it, and I've never once doubted that you were the right translators for the series! But I can imagine that when you're in the midst of it things look different, so good luck keeping at it! (the baby-deer Yato thing mystifies me too (and I want to see it, haha!!). was he being wobbly or something, like a deer just born? I feel like if I've ever seen baby deer referenced in manga, it was for some reason like that...)

Aww, thanks! I think my biggest problem is we'll figure out what something means, and I'll think, "I'm 95% sure there's a common way to express this in English, but I can't for the life of me come up with it!" and I wonder if a translator from a different walk of life would have that vocabulary more readily accessible in their brain. So then I remind myself that maybe they would, but there are plenty of ways that our translations are great that they might not have come up with readily...and that's dangerous because the superiority complex starts to kick in, and...

Anyway, !!! Yes, after much searching, we finally learned that if we'd just thought to add "umaretate no (newborn)" to the beginning of our search, we would have confirmed your (and Athena's) theory. But we like to be sure, hence all the searching anyway. We'll leave the rest of the context for you to discover upon reading.
