I think we may not have been quite so shameless if we didn't have so much of our mental energy taken up by another matter, to the point of not being able to think too straight about much else. That other matter is Kingdom Hearts. (Isn't it always?)
Square-Enix is having a Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Launch Showcase event over at Walt Disney Studios, and we want to go! Why? Why can't it be at Downtown Disney? Well, that wasn't really important because in addition to figuring out transportation, we also had to make sure that they would let us in when we got there. There are three ways to make this happen, two of which seem to involve a random drawing. Fortunately, the third was is to jump at a link as soon as they post it on Facebook. We hadn't liked the North American Kingdom Hearts Facebook page because we're mostly really interested in the Japanese version of the game anymore (we're such snobs, oy), but for this purpose, we liked the page.
I mean, it's hard to describe how badly we want to go to this thing. Even I have a difficult time believing it when I look at it from certain angles. We already blew our chance to be in that video thingie, and now we have a second chance! (And if it all works out this time, it's just as well that it didn't work the first time, because if we're going to watch that video, we don't really want to see ourselves in it. We hate looking at recordings of ourselves.) A second chance to tell the people who made Kingdom Hearts, "Hey, just so you know, I exist and I love you."
Anyway, we knew what time the link was going to go live, so we laid wait. And when it came up, we pounced! But it was tricky, because Page was on the laptop, and you can only get one ticket--you can't just get two for yourself, and we only had one computer available for pouncing. We pulled out the iPad, but the link wasn't showing up on it! So after I secured my own ticket, I signed out of my account and into Athena's, and pounced again! And we managed to get one ticket each.
But then! we checked the tickets and they were for different times! Noooooooo! I was sure I selected the same time for both of us! So we sent them a message and had that to stew over while we attempted to work, which we actually did a pretty good job of. We're working on a Harlequin manga, which normally wouldn't be too exciting, but the characters actually seemed to be okay with thinking things through and stuff (but of course there were misunderstandings anyway, but it was because there was another character who was a big fat liar), and! the art style was really pretty. It reminded me of Tetsuya Nomura's character designs for The World Ends With You, which helped me feel like yay things are going to work out.
In the meantime, a friend of ours said she couldn't go to the event with us, but if we need her to she can probably give us a ride! This was like the best news ever, because transportation was what did us in the last time we tried this. And we have three weeks to secure a backup plan (or a forefront plan, so we can make this one the backup plan, like if we find someone who's going, too, that would be the main plan).
And then, after we went to the grocery store, we had an email from the Kingdom Hearts event people saying that a lot of people were having trouble with the times listed on their tickets, don't worry about it and just come for the time you signed up for.
So now! it's almost a sure thing! At this point, if it doesn't work out, I think I will be able to tell myself it just wasn't meant to be. But we really hope it does work out.
Today I'm thankful for having tickets to the "Inside the Kingdom, with Heart" event, knowing of someone who would be willing to drive us there, having groceries (we might have pizza for dinner every night this week, just because we can; and why not--we had mac and cheese every night last week), work going very well today, and the adorableness of the sheikh in this manga. (Also, when we got the email telling us which Harlequin manga we'd be translating, we were like, "YES!!" because Harlequin manga with sheikhs was our main justification for buying a Magi CD. Speaking! of the Magi CD! It has a song that can only be described as the national anthem of Sindria. Someday we will find out if it was Ono-D(voice of Sindbad)'s idea. That's totally a thing he would do. "I rule a country? We should have a national anthem!")
