New camera! Probably!
6th-Oct-2014 04:04 pm
Today is a very exciting day! Our new camera came! Woohoo!!!

In honor of the event, I was going to post the last two pictures that were taken on the old camera, but it appears I have not yet copied them onto the computer from the memory card. That can be changed easily enough, but it requires finding the old camera, and there's a slight problem with that. Locating the old camera would take time away from playing Kingdom Hearts. To illustrate how big a dilemma that is, I will tell you that we haven't even taken the new camera out of the box to play with yet, because we'd rather play Kingdom Hearts. In fact, we haven't even opened the package to see if it's the camera that got delivered (we're expecting one other package).

In fact, the day we got Kingdom Hearts, we also got the newest volume of Skip Beat!, and Skip Beat!, too, was put on the back burner in favor of Kingdom Hearts. (Athena read it yesterday. I'll read it...sometime when we've decided we've had enough Kingdom Hearts. Or next Sunday.)

But it's true I need to get the camera out so it can be ready for any time Page looks especially adorable. Maybe after a snack.

As for those two pictures, I definitely want to post them eventually! So you can look forward to that later.

That being the case...Kingdom Hearts!

Today I'm thankful for having a light workload today, getting to listen to our Polar Bear's Cafe Music Best CD while we worked (and then we started singing along to all the songs and we had to yell at ourselves to get back to work: "Do you want to play Kingdom Hearts or don't you!?"), getting a shiny package that's probably a camera, hot fudge, and new Castle tonight (which probably won't get watched for a while, because of Kingdom Hearts).

Whoa. Even Skip Beat! takes a back seat. On that note, I just ordered the second-newest volume today (I needed to get to the free shipping threshold). Waiting till April for the English 34 was just too hard... but now I wonder how long I'll be able to hold out before getting 35 too. Ugh, it's so good!

Anyway, I'm glad the game is so very entertaining for you! And yay for your new camera too! I finally confessed to my mum that I'd left mine out in the rain a while back (it had been a gift from them) so now I suppose my penance is over and I should get a new one too. What kind did you get?

Oh yeah, the ending to 33 was awful. The ending for 34...well, it's different than 33, so you'll have to draw your own conclusions as to whether it's better or worse, but we're currently of the opinion that there's no such thing as a good stopping point in Skip Beat! anymore, because it's just so good you can't stop! ...And that's part of why it takes a back seat to Kingdom Hearts. If we don't start it, we don't have to worry about stopping.

There are actually many factors as to why we choose Kingdom Hearts first, because I would say the entertainment level is equal for both, but both provide for different entertainment needs. But with KH, it's a little more than just entertainment--Kingdom Hearts is like comfort food for us. It's like coming home, or something. It's like going to Disneyland, and since Disneyland seems to be gradually decreasing in awesomeness lately, we need Kingdom Hearts that much more.

Also, Kingdom Hearts II starts with like six hours of gameplay as Roxas, and much as we love Roxas, you don't really feel like you've started the game until you play as Sora. Especially because the part where you play as Roxas really is like a different game. So you need a big chunk of time just to get past that, and then you need a big chunk of time to satisfy the "playing as Sora" need. And since we got the game and the manga on the Friday before General Conference weekend, there wasn't a lot of time to spare.

...And now that I've talked probably way more than necessary about Kingdom Hearts, camera! The reason we took so long to get a new one is that we kept holding out hope that we could somehow fix the old one, since we have a lot of guy friends who have this attitude of "I can fix anything!" as well as "I know everything about photography!"

But it just kept not happening, and I kept thinking oh man I NEED a camera!, so when Canon sent us an email about deals on refurbished cameras, we jumped at the offer. (Sadly, it looks like the deal is over.) We got the PowerShot ELPH 520 SH, and had a difficult time choosing a color, but ultimately went with red for our allegiance to Suzaku. We finally opened the package a little while ago, and it is shiny and I'm very happy with our color selection.

Haha! I don't blame you at all (and really it's not that surprising either) for prioritizing KH :D You're so right about Skip Beat!'s endings, too. I think she must plan her books that way on purpose. When I got v33, I remember deciding to read it first before another new release, even though I normally save my favourite for last, because I knew it would end somewhere unsatisfactory and I'd need another series to distract myself with. Since then, I've gone and reread the whoooooooole series up to 33. I need to stop talking/thinking about this, because I'm just making myself more impatient.

That's a good point too about needing to get far enough into the game (this particular game) that it feels like it "should"—Now I remember the weirdness of starting the KHII manga and being all "Who's this kid??" At this point, though, I might be one of those heretics(?) who like Roxas better than Sora... we'll just say it's because I've spent the most time working on Roxas' manga, in recent months.

Related to nothing at all, have you seen Akatsuki no Yona yet?! (ep1 came out today.) I don't remember anything about the voice actors so that's not why I'm telling you to watch it, but you totally should!!!! :D I am super-duper excited about it.

That's probably a good idea! Making sure you have something else to distract you. Binge reading Skip Beat! sounds like an amazingly fun thing to do. Maybe someday...

Oh my goodness, when they first started talking about Kingdom Hearts II, they had this promotional art with Roxas on it, only you only saw him from behind, and we were like, "What the heck? Who is this kid and why is he so important?" And then you spend SIX HOURS playing as him (now that we've been through it a few times, it's probably less than six hours, but still) before you get back to Sora. I think a lot of the really great Sora character stuff happens in Kingdom Hearts the first, which was all kind of glossed over in manga form, but nevertheless, we have reason to believe that Roxas has at least as much popularity as Sora, if not more. As for us...it depends on our mood and which game we're playing.

Whenever we're asked who our favorite character is, I end up with a list. I think for now it's pretty much narrowed down to Sora, Riku, and Axel, but we haven't played Birth by Sleep in a while, so who knows? (Athena points out that, at the moment there's a feeling of, "Riku? Who cares?" We haven't really gotten to the Riku stuff in KH2 yet.)

We did watch Akatsuki no Yona! We were planning to anyway, and then you mentioned it on Facebook, so we were like, "Oh yeah, it is Tuesday," then with the weirdness of our schedule brought about by Kingdom Hearts [chi], we had half an hour to kill, so we watched it. So far it doesn't have any voice actors we're really interested in, but there are soooo many characters in the opening sequence and any one of them could be played by Yuuki Kaji! So of course we have to keep watching! The story shows promise.
