Some of you may remember that several months ago, we bought a concertina, but then the E stopped working. We found out that we could contact the people we bought it from for help fixing it...but since we're very timid and don't know how to approach people about anything, we decided to be distracted from it. Then for some reason--probably because Athena was on jury duty, so we had time to think of things other than work--we thought maybe we should get back on that whole concertina thing. And since I had a lot of free time with Athena at the courthouse, I emailed the people we bought the concertina from.
Yesterday, we got an email from the person I think of as the Concertina Master, and he said it sounds like the problem is a blocked reed, then gave instructions on how to fix it. We had other things to think about (mostly the circus), so we forgot about it until today, but when I started thinking about it again, I was so excited that we were going to get to play our concertina for real soon!
The first step was to unscrew the side with the blocked reed. So we pulled out a couple of our tool pens and started to do just that! We got five of the six out...but the sixth one would not come. And whenever we'd turn the screwdriver, we'd see little metal shavings come off the screw making it more and more impossible to actually get the thing to turn. So we Googled how to remove a stripped screw, and found out that we need a screw extractor. And since we don't have one, that was the end of that venture.
The really sad thing about it is that with five of the screws removed, we could just lift the end off enough to see the problem reed...but not enough to reach it or do anything about it. So there ya go. The concertina remains unfixed. Eventually, we will make our way to a hardware store and buy a screw extractor, but for now it's really hot outside, so the concertina will continue to remain unfixed.
Today I'm thankful for having instructions on how we can fix our concertina, having time to read manga today, getting all caught up on the Arata: The Legend anime, Happy Cafe cameos in Ouji to Majo to Himegimi to, and that there are ways to remove stripped screws from things.
