See, when I opened the anime sheet that Mom gave me for Christmas, I wasn't sure what it was exactly (it was a big piece of cloth with a picture on it...?), and I didn't recognize the characters, and I jerkily assumed that Mom and Steve had gone to the store in the mall that sells anime stuff and just kind of half-heartedly picked out something they thought might be cute. So, even though it is very pretty, I wasn't excited about it, and when Mom had Kimee hold it up so I could see the whole picture, instead of being all, "Oooh, it's so pretty!" (which is it!), I said, "I still don't know what it is!"...oh man, I hate to think that I said that! Athena says she got the feeling nobody was really paying attention anyway, but still! I'm sorry! I just have to say I'm sorry.
Afterward, Mom explained that she ordered the sheets online, and that she wanted to get something from one of the series we translate(d), but they didn't have any. So she searched through all the sheets (and do you know the kind of pictures they put on sheets?) to find the prettiest, most non x-rated ones for us. And the whole ordeal didn't send her into a state of "I can't believe they like this Japanese stuff!" as far as we can tell, which is also greatly appreciated. Later, when we were upset about something else entirely, she said she tried really hard to find something we'd like, and I imagine her waiting for us to open the present and to see our faces light up at the realization of what we'd gotten, and I feel like such a jerk.
The fact of the matter is, both the sheets are very very pretty, and now that we know the effort that went into finding them, we appreciate them all the more. It's still true that we think they're too pretty to be used as sheets, but they're also too big to be used as much else, so we're kind of at a loss for what to do with them. But! as I said yesterday, we found the series the one picture came from, and we watched two more episodes of it last night, and it's so cute! And a little extreme. We just watched the episode where the maid wanted to clean the study, but then they discovered there were cockroaches in it, so they all freaked out and the princess blew it up instead. Oh, that silly princess.
Okay, I think I feel a little better now.
Today I'm thankful for sort of getting that off my chest, finishing volume two of Ascribe to Heaven (maybe someday, in like ten years, there will be a volume three), having color ink for our printer again, getting to have cereal for breakfast, and waking up to our Disney Date CD.
