But first, today.
We were kind of freaking out, because...okay, so we've been going through this thing where we hate the world. It comes and it goes, but it was getting really annoying, so we decided to talk to our bishop about it. He kept throwing out suggestions and we kept saying, "It won't work! It won't work!" Well, it might work, actually, but it's always the same old stuff, like try sitting apart from each other during Sunday school and maybe people won't be afraid to approach you individually. We haven't actually tried that, so there's still a possibility that it would work. But anyway, our social anxiety's been getting worse, and we keep blaming our reluctance to approach people on our past traumas. So Bishop asked if we'd be willing to see a counselor and we said, "Somebody who's job it is to listen to us whine about our problems? Why wouldn't we be?"
Bishop texted last night (he tried calling, but we were at the temple) to let us know he'd talked to his counselor friend, and told us to call and make an appointment. So I called, but this particular counseling place works through voice mail, so I left a message, and all day I've been nervous about getting a phone call from someone we don't know! It didn't help that the voice mail message was like, "If this is a life-threatening emergency, hang up and call 911." And I was like, "We could use some help, but we don't need it as badly as that!" So our social anxiety is activated again.
So we were waiting for a phone call, and sure enough, we got one! ...from Sarah. And that made us feel a little bit jerky, because it's her birthday and what's she doing calling us? We should be calling her! We had sort of been planning to, but we were very distracted. She told us not to worry about it. But it was especially interesting, because I was coming to the conclusion that the main reason we feel like we could use some counseling is that we don't feel like we have any friends we can go to with our problems, and we feel like that, because none of our friends talk to us unless we talk to them first, and here Sarah is, needing to get out of the house and calling us. And so we went to IHOP for her birthday!
While we were there, we got another call! ...from our friend Leia. She was in our neck of the woods and wondering why we weren't at home. (Especially because some weirdo scribbled over our name on our mailbox, so she wasn't sure if we even still lived here.) Wow. I'm starting to wonder if we really need counseling after all. For crying out loud, we have these friends--we should call them! I guess we were just too intimidated by the babies. Babies can be pretty intimidating, and I'm not even joking. Just ask a kitty. Anyway, we told her we were at IHOP, so she came and visited with us while we had lunch, and her baby got to meet Sarah's baby and the baby Sarah babysits, and it was all quite adorable. We suspect we may have nearly given our waitress a heart attack with all the babies. Logan tried to teach Leia's baby how to do a high-five. It was super cute.
After lunch, we came back here with Sarah and the babies and tried to talk while at the same time following Logan and alternately helping him terrorize Page (he didn't do anything to her except make loud noises, but she's a very jumpy kitty) and preventing him from breaking the laptop. He kept hugging our air purifier for some reason. We think it's because it's just as tall as he is. All in all, it was a good day.
Now for the fun geeky stuff.
We had finished our end-of-the-day computer routine last night, but we were still bored and not wanting to go to bed, so we went to Wikipedia to see if Japan knew the cast of the Fruits Basket finale DVD thingie thing. Lo and behold, apparently it had been announced in the latest Hana to Yume magazine.
First of all, it seems like most of the anime cast is the same. They did change Akito, which made me a little bit sad, because originally Akito was played by a man, but the man was an onna-gata--the kabuki actors who play women. So as far as the performer's acting career, he was a woman, and I thought it was a neat cultural thing. It would be like in Princess Mononoke, where the mother wolf is also played by an onna-gata. Anyway, now the head of the Sohma family is played by Junko Minagawa. We'll always remember her as Ayaka Yukihiro, but probably her most famous role is that kid in Prince of Tennis (Ryoma?). We don't have a really strong opinion about her, except that we didn't like her when we first started hearing her voice, but since we've heard her as more characters, we think she can be pretty cool.
The other change, which we were really hoping for, was Momiji! He gets to be played by a guy now! (He's one of our very favorites, and it may be sexist of us, but we like to hear guy voices.) We were hoping he'd be played by Tetsuya Kakihara, because we went through a big Kakihara-kun (he's just slightly younger than us) phase a few years ago, and he grew up in Germany, which would be so perfect for Momiji. But unfortunately, our magical voice actor future-casting skills weren't working for this DVD, and he's played by Kouki Miyata instead. We like Miyata-san a lot, and he seems like a pretty obvious choice for Momiji...but somehow I just can't hear Miyata-san sounding like Momiji. Still, while his voice is very distinct, he does have several variations, so it's possible one of them fits. He was Yukito in Tsubasa Chronicles, among other famous roles.
Now of course, what everyone really wants to know is who plays Kureno and Isuzu. Kureno is played by Susumu Chiba. When I read that, it seemed like a really good fit. Somehow, I feel like Chiba-san plays a lot of Kureno types, and yet I can't think of any. I mostly know him for Chiaki in Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Yuri in Kaleido Star. I guess Yuri might be slightly Kureno-like, especially in the New Wings series.
Isuzu is played by Houko Kuwashima. We were kind of surprised they got somebody so famous for just one or two lines. We're also amused that the two new voice members of the Zodiac are Jeanne and Sindbad. Again, I can't really hear her as Isuzu, but she's got a ton of different voices.
Finally Mayuko is played by Naomi Shindou. We only really know her as Cagalli from Gundam Seed, but that's good enough for us. Cagalli's awesome. And her voice seems like a good match.
Today I'm thankful for getting to go out to lunch and hang out with Sarah, getting back in touch with Leia, knowing all the new Fruits Basket voices (everybody who cares knows the student council cast, right?), managing to get some work done, and Logan's new straw dance (it's not really that new; it's the same as usual (shaking his head back and forth in a dance-like manner), only with a straw in his mouth).
