Another day

We're back from Disneyland and very concerned. Oreo is acting almost normal, but there's one very noticeable difference: he can't seem to lift his head. Or like he can, but chooses not to, because it would hurt too much. When I first saw it, I thought he was just sniffing around, keeping his nose close to the ground. But it's been going on all morning. (I'm ashamed to admit that last night, I didn't notice him enough to be able to tell.) We're hoping it's his arthritis, and that his medicine will ease his muscles enough to make it better, but if he's still hunched over tomorrow, we're going to take him to the vet.

But Disneyland was pretty fun. It was a little low-key this time, but I guess it's been that way almost every time we've gone recently. Gaston is hoping we'll change our minds about renewing our passes, because if we don't renew, he won't have anybody to go with, so there won't be much point in renewing his own pass. What he doesn't realize is that we're hoping everybody will stop buying Disneyland tickets for like a year, so that they'll think, "Oh, hey, maybe that price increase was a bad idea." So on the one hand, he's getting at our "everyone should be able to enjoy Disneyland!" consciences by saying he won't be able to, but on the other hand, is that really such a bad thing right now?

Anyway, the reason I brought that up is that when we got to the park, the first thing we did was have lunch at our favorite place to not like eating (in California Adventure), and so we weren't too thrilled about the idea of keeping it up for a year. But I forgot to mention the odd thing that happened before we got into the park, which is that they wouldn't let us into the half-empty parking structure. We wondered if something happened, but later we talked to a cast member who suggested that maybe they were doing some last-minute touch-ups in preparation for the big California Adventure reveal in...whenever they're doing it. Officially, it's in a week and a half, but they're having a bunch of mini-previews before then, so...

After lunch, we went on the newly refurbished Little Mermaid ride, where they did not paint Ariel's lips red, as we had hoped they would. They did, however, change the animation bits, so the first one (where you see Ariel finding a dinglehopper) looks pretty good now. The second one (where Ariel is being turned into a human) still looks kind of off, but in a different way, now that they made it look more like hand-drawn animation. They also changed Ariel's hair in the Under the Sea room, so it doesn't look like soft-serve ice cream anymore, which is also a vast improvement. It looked like they may have added stuff in Ursula's lair, but in the foreground--where they really need to add stuff is the background, because if you want to make someone feel like they're in a place, that place should not have blank walls (unless that's part of the atmosphere of that place, but we've seen Ursula's lair in the movie).

Other than that, there's not a whole lot to comment on. The Ghirardelli ice cream shop was open, but we found it right after lunch, so we didn't get anything. I think the idea was to come back later, but it just didn't happen...which is especially sad considering the fact that we spent at least an hour just sitting and talking at the Hungry Bear restaurant in Critter Country, so it's not like we didn't have time. The menu looked amazing, though. All the yummy ice cream... Someday...

Also, we got a shot glass engraved. A friend of ours at church saw us and remembered we go to Disneyland a lot, so she was about to ask us to do a favor for her, but then had second thoughts. She collects shot glasses, and I guess she figured we wouldn't want to get her anything made for alcoholic beverages. Well, it's not like she's going to actually drink alcohol out of them, and besides, the official term for them at the parks is "toothpick holder." Anyway, she also adores Tinkerbell, and the only place she'd ever been able to find Tinkerbell shot glasses was Disneyland, where her parents bought her one and had her name engraved on it. ...And then it broke. So she needed a new one, and now it was our job to get it for her. So we did. Tadah!

Today I'm thankful for getting to go on the Indiana Jones ride, getting to see Fantasmic!, getting to help a friend, getting to try Disneyland's peanut butter sandwich chocolate thingies (a graham cracker with a thick layer of peanut butter on top, all covered with chocolate), and getting to go to the temple tonight.
