Eep!! part 2

I guess I should stop putting this off, since I don't have a whole lot else to do anyway... though we really should get back to that one translation. We're actually kind of afraid of the e-mail, which is part of why I didn't post more about it the first time.

The name on the e-mail was one we didn't recognize, and there wasn't a topic, so we figured it was someone from the Honyaku mailing list, because there was a brief time when all those emails came to Outlook topic-less (or topless! AAAAhahahahaha... ha... ha...). But when we opened it up, it was addressed to us specifically. At first I was like, "Oooh! Someone who knows us! I wonder who it is!" and then as we read on and realized who it was, we both freaked out majorly, but only on the inside, since there was no one else around to appreciate any big show.

Actually, it made my chest hurt a lot, but that might also have something to do with the fact that I was remembering a conversation with Dad that I had on the phone the previous night. He nearly gave me a heart attack by sharply warning me that moving the cats to Japan would be an Herculean effort, and would probably require the riches of Croesus (only he didn't really say all that; that's what I took from his tone). Upon questioning him further, I realized he didn't really know what he was talking about. People, please fact-check before giving people heart attacks.

Still, there was residual stress, which may be part of why I'm still afraid of the email. It may also have something to do with the fact that one of the first things Mr. VA said was that voice acting can have some drawbacks, and we didn't want to hear anything hopeless sounding, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

First, he said hello and complimented our Japanese, which kind of surprised me because the only Japanese we used was "hajimemashite" at the beginning and "douzo yoroshiku onegai shimasu" at the end. Still, Athena has really nice Japanese handwriting, so maybe that was it. Of course, it would also require a certain amount of Japanese skill to have found him from where we are, but now I'm rambling. Next he asked if we're related to Hugh Nibley. This was not unexpected, either, and, in fact, we were hoping he would be a Hugh Nibley fan because it would increase the chances of him writing back.

Then he gave the pros and cons of voice acting, gave us some advice on how to prepare to get into it, and that's about it. And he said if we had any questions, we could email him back. So now, as baranoneko puts it, we have a Seiyuu Senpai (capitals added)! This is actually really neat, but we have to get over our fear of the email first. His email actually had the same kind of feel as Butch Hartman's posts at the Butch Hartman forums. I'm not sure if this makes it better or worse.

Really, I think the timing of it had a lot to do with this irrational fear (that, and our fear of people in general), since we had just gotten through a ton of stress and are therefore a little wary of potential good things. Well, unknown potential good things. For example, if someone called at the exact same time and said, "Get your stuff ready, we're going to Disneyland!" I would have been all for it with no qualms. Unless it was someone we didn't really know all that well, and then I might have passed out from stress. Man, I have issues.

So yeah. This is a good thing. Especially because all the cons he mentioned are things we've already considered, so they're not that big a deterrent. And now we have chocolate, which we didn't have during the weekend, so hopefully we'll be able to calm down. Like really calm down, as opposed to calming myself down enough to act like a rational individual until I remind myself of scary emails.
