Anyhoo. Last night, our air conditioner started making noises at us. We didn't think they sounded like good noises, so we turned off the air conditioning. It wasn't too much longer before we would have been turning it off anyway, so it wasn't too much of a problem.
We left it off this morning until after the vents started shooting hot air at us. It's nothing unusual--the vents always shoot hot air at us when it's significantly hot outside and the air conditioning hasn't come on. I'm not sure why it does that, but it hasn't caused us any problems. A while later, it was getting to be about the temperature we have the AC set to, so Athena turned it on...and it started making noises again. It's kind of like a mix between a growl, and a chair being dragged across the floor. Not like a Wookiee kind of chair-dragging, but like...something different.
So we turned the AC off, finished work for the day (almost; we decided to do a little bit more work later), and went to report our air conditioner!
The maintenance guy was in the office when we made the report, so it wasn't long before he showed up! We explained the problem, he turned the air conditioner on to verify our claims, and when it started growling he said, "...That's not good." We said we didn't think so, either, and then he went outside, I think to go onto the roof to see if he could identify the problem. But we haven't heard people-on-the-roof noises, so maybe he went to call the AC fixers. Either way, we haven't heard from him since. But since we didn't hear people-on-the-roof noises, we're going to go ahead and assume he hasn't been eated by the monster in the air conditioner.
In the meantime, it's a relatively cool day today (high of...either 94 or 97, I can't remember which), so I think we'll survive. And hopefully we can get the AC fixed soon.
Today I'm thankful for finishing work earlier than expected today, Hobnobs still being very delicious (mmmm...), our air conditioner waiting until it was relatively cool to start talking, quick response from the maintenance team, and our friend being nice enough to let us use her Costco membership so we can buy new glasses.
