That's not entirely fair, of course--we could initiate the conversation ourselves. And in fact, there was one person there who used to be in our ward, and she specifically sat down to talk to us, and we had a nice conversation until she was called away to help put up a shade canopy. We sat in a group to join their conversation after that, but for some reason there wasn't really any conversation going on.
So we decided to go back to the house for a little break, and then Mom's cat decided that we were excellent company, and we spent the rest of the party in Mom's living room, with Mom's cat on Athena's lap. At one point, we decided we should go give the party a try again, but that made the kitty very grumpy.
All in all, it wasn't terrible, but it sure was boring. We knew that was a strong possibility, but we weren't equipped to counteract it. And now we're home and sunburned, and just spent an hour and a half trying and failing to finish this Negima! translation. Sigh.
Today I'm thankful for at least finishing one page, being home with all our fun stuff, aloe, having at least one nice conversation, and of course all the men and women who gave their lives so we could have the freedoms we enjoy today.
