It was even better the second time! I think that's partly because we were already prepared to hear singing in a style we don't like, so instead of being like irked about the song, we were able to appreciate the melody and stuff, and not hold a grudge against it. Incidentally, someone mentioned that Rapunzel's song is too much like the one in Enchanted, and I admit that during the first few lines, it sounded like another happy working song, but that part really does only go on for like three lines, and the rest of it is totally different. I still don't care for the way she uses her voice at the high parts, though, so we're considering getting the Japanese soundtrack. Shokotan for the win.
After the movie, we had some interesting conversations. During the credits, we heard Leia and Han talking about how the prince gets blinded in the original fairy tale, and we mentioned how we wished that Mother Gothel had slashed at Flynn's eyes, because that would have been hot. Temporary blindness is sexy. I don't know why. Han says we live in a twisted world. That's possible. It doesn't necessarily have to be temporary blindness caused by violence. Athena's pretty sure it's the vulnerability.
Later we were talking about Mother Gothel, and how you can feel it the instant her song turns evil during Mother Knows Best Reprise, because the music is so awesome, and Han said he wasn't really feeling the evil from Mother Gothel. He likes his evil witches to be really evil. And we were like, "What are you talking about? Mother Gothel is probably one of the evilest Disney villains ever created!" Every word out of her mouth is some disparaging comment about Rapunzel designed to make her feel inadequate and inferior and all those other bad in- words, except when she says "I love you," which is such a lie. And when she's supposedly comforting her, she always does something to make the comfort not all that comfortable after all. We noticed for the first time this time that, when she's "comforting" Rapunzel after Flynn "ran away," she's younger than she was in the previous scene, which means that even while she was supposed to be making Rapunzel feel better, she's like, "But first let's take care of my superficial problem." Ugh.
Brilliantly designed character. Good job.
After we got home from the movie, we had a shipping confirmation from Play-Asia! Woohoo! And we tracked our package, and Fedex says Kingdom Hearts Re:coded should be arriving by ten-thirty tomorrow morning! Eeeeeee!! And to make things even better, we got an e-mail giving us the go-ahead to work on the next Higurashi, which means we have work!
Although the timing for that one is a little unfortunate, because we wanted to take a day off to play our new Kingdom Hearts game. But we started work on it today, and the translation is progressing satisfactorily, so we think we'll take the day off anyway. Unless the package decides to come later than ten-thirty, in which case we'll probably work to kill time.
Today I'm thankful for having seen Tangled again, a new Kingdom Hearts game being on its way!, having work to do!, mini French baguettes, and people who are kind enough to realize we can't get text messages and call to let us know that FHE is being held early this week.
