So last night, we decided on a whim that we should invite Celeste and her husband over, and we even had ideas as to what to do when they got here! Celeste taught English in China for a semester, so she's been into Chinese stuff ever since, and so we suggested watching The Secret of the Magic Gourd. We all enjoyed watching that together, but more importantly, Celeste's husband told us that, being in the military now, he can get into Disneyland free, and he can get five-day passports for people for a mere $99! Gasp! So he and Celeste are planning on going early this summer, and we have been invited to join them! Yay!
Now, as we all know, by now, us going to Disneyland isn't any more newsworthy than the rest of the ordinary stuff I usually type about, but they're planning their trip for somewhat close to Anime Expo time. And when Athena mentioned that, Celeste's husband almost immediately showed an interest in coming along (we had to finish discussing Disneyland first). And Celeste has always entertained ideas of letting us put her in a cute costume so all the attendees will think she's adorable and she can stand around soaking up the attention while they take her picture, so it seems like they may seriously be considering joining us. This would be awesome for two reasons: 1)Of course it's always more fun at conventions when you're with friends, and 2)we would have a ride down to Los Angeles.
Of course, we're always concerned that taking non-anime fans to our ultimate anime geek paradise will bore them, but we're just going to remember that cosplay is fun and Celeste has friends in the area. Plus, who doesn't want to go to a Power Rangers reunion? (They're going to have a Power Rangers reunion. Hold on while I check who all's gonna be there. Aisha, Rocky, Zack, Kat, Adam, and Lord Zedd. Kinda sad that there's no Tommy or Kimberly. Ah well.)
The other problem is that now we have to choose a cute set of costumes for them. (It's possible that it won't happen anyway, but let's be optimistic.) Celeste wants to be cute, and her boy is ready to wear whatever we put him in. He didn't even have a problem when we suggested putting him in Fakir's ballet outfit. We mentioned ballet, and he said, "Do I get to wear tights!?" And I was like, "Are you serious...?" And he actually was, but mostly because when you wear costumes, I guess he realizes you need to be prepared to put on things you would never ever ever actually consider wearing. Of course, Celeste would rather be Tutu than Ahiru, which would be tricky, because I don't know how to make tutus like that. So we're still considering our options. We also thought they'd make a good Mustang and Hawkeye (all our sisters have their hair dyed darker than its natural color, but to us Celeste will always and forever be blonde), but the military uniforms aren't "cute."
There's always the option of going non-anime and having them be Jeannie and Major Nelson, but why would we put somebody in a non-anime costume for an anime convention?
Today I'm thankful for Power Rangers reunions, the idea of potentially having people come to AX with us, having a fun visit with Celeste and her husband last night, having time to work on a column while we wait for this FullMetal Alchemist episode to download, and the cool breeze from the ceiling fan.
