Yesterday we finally managed to get some time to read manga, and it was oh so nice. I finished volume 2 of VB Rose (we started I Hate You how long ago and we're only just now getting to this?), which is as far as we have currently, so then I skipped ahead to one of the books from our latest package (we have like three packages of manga that we haven't gotten to read all of) and started Hoshi wa Utau 2. That's a series that makes me happy just reading it, even when terrible things are happening. And then Chihiro was talking and I was like, "I know characters like this. They're played by Takahiro Sakurai." (He's Fakir in Princess Tutu, to give you an idea.) It was amusing, but the main guy in VB Rose is also a total Sakurai-san character (and I think he really is played by him in the CD drama...?), so I wanted to give somebody else a chance. I tried switching Akira Ishida's voice in (in my head), but it just didn't work. Although Tomokazu Seki kind of did. Hm.
Aaaaanyway. We also finally started playing Fushigi Yuugi Suzaku Ibun. That game. I'm still not entirely sure what to think about it, but it is very addicting. My main problem with it is the lack of, like, animation, but the script is pretty amusing, so I think overall it's a good game anyway. Not to mention certain stills you get of the characters when Nuriko finds a spring in the woods. Mmmm...
I'm finding that the cast switch isn't that hard to deal with for the most part. I think it might be because Yuu Watase's art style has changed so much over the years that they practically look like different characters already, so why not give them different voices, too? And Tetsuya Kakihara just seems so perfect for Amiboshi and Suboshi anyway (but we haven't met either of them in the game yet). Athena says it's like they had to make this game so he could be them, because when they first animated it, he was too young and probably still in Germany.
Mamoru Miyano as Tamahome is still kind of weird, but not because of it not being Hikaru Midorikawa. More because everyone we've heard him play lately has had a superiority complex of some sort, and Tamahome doesn't so much. Also, I don't think we've ever heard him play a character that talks like Tamahome (saying "nee" instead of "nai," for example). We'd kind of expect it from Riku, but he didn't talk like that in Chain of Memories. Maybe he's too good to talk like that.
I've also discovered (again) that I really like Junko Minagawa when she plays girls. Sure, she doesn't technically play a girl in this, but it's close enough. So far we've only met half of the Suzaku Seishi, but this whole thing is making us want to watch the anime of Fushigi Yuugi, and watch Pretear, and watch FushigiBoshi no FutagoHime. So much anime, so little time, alas.
Today I'm thankful for shiny new FY songs sung by Miyano-kun, having time to read manga, having time to call Dad for Father's Day, getting cupcakes in Relief Society, and having already decided which hymns we're going to sing next week (now I can actually practice them!).
