Church stuff

There was a lot of pretty awesome church stuff this weekend, so I think I want to write about it, but I always have a hard time doing so. Like I don't want to sound too sappy or too preachy or anything, so I'd rather just avoid it altogether, but during Sacrament Meeting I was thinking about in Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett when Granny Weatherwax was talking to the priest guy and saying something about how if she really believed a religion to be true, she'd want to shout it from the mountaintops or something like that. I don't remember, so I'm paraphrasing, but it's something along those lines. And I do believe that the LDS Church is true, so I figure I shouldn't keep quiet about it.

But now that I've been thinking about all that, I can't remember all the stuff I was noting in my head that I wanted to write about. This is sad. Ah well.

That's right! Last night at the General Women's Conference, President Monson made a very good point not to pray for tasks that fit your abilities, but to pray for abilities that are up to the tasks you're given. And then you won't need to wait for a miracle, because you'll be the miracle. That sounds like a pretty awesome idea, so I wanted to write it here to help myself remember it. It's a good thing I actually managed to remember it long enough to write it down.

There was also lot of stuff about service and helping others, which is another thing we need to work on. We tend to excuse ourselves with the fact that we're basically shut-ins so there's not really anybody to help, but we kind of feel like losers for not doing service very often, and I think that doing more service will help me to be less "argh!"-like when I wake up in the mornings. I'm sure there are ways to help people even while being shut-in, so now we just have to figure out what they are. But now we need to make it an official goal, or we'll just start slacking again. So now I officially declare it a goal of ours to find ways to be helpful in the circumstances we're in.

Today I'm thankful for the awesome church meetings we had this weekend, packing paper and kitties, flat soda (I like it flat!), the courage to own up to my opinions, and time to read manga.
