Our water's finally back on! We don't know what happened, but we woke up to some guys jack-hammering the parking space right under our window, and I heard him talking with somebody else about water pipes. Then when we went out to get more research material, we had a notice on our door telling us the water would be shut off today from 8:30 to 2. It ended up being off until 3:35, but fortunately we had our research to distract us. Summer in Fresno is a very bad time to not have any water.
On Monday, we had a service scavenger hunt for FHE. We didn't like the idea, because it takes us very far outside our comfort zones. While we're all for helping random strangers on the street when we see someone in need, going out to strangers' homes to do random chores seems like a bit of a stretch. But it wasn't until after the activity that we realized that it could actually be a very bad idea. Everybody's so busy racing to get points that they're not doing as good a job as they could, and it's possible that their attempts at service ended up being a disservice, especially since they're not necessarily doing it for the right reasons. Haste makes waste, after all.
Today I'm thankful for having the water back (though we think there's a possibility they'll need to turn it off again tomorrow, but that could just be because the water's not used to being back on yet, so it's not acting quite right), the return of Who Wants to Be a Superhero?, being almost ready to actually get to work on this crazy project, finally having relatives liking the manga we translate enough to seek out more volumes, and getting to eat popsicles.
