In person

Oh man, so much has been going on lately. ...Okay, not really that much, now that I think about it, but it all seems to happen just so that it makes us go to sleep late. We took today off to make up for it, but we were up so late last night that we maybe got the normal amount of sleep after sleeping in, and now we're up late again. Sigh.

Anyway. The big news is that we get to go to church in-person again! Tadah! I mean, we'd actually gone to the church building several times, mostly for music stuff, which we thought was okay, because there were so few other people that it was easy for them to stay way far away. They canceled the live music, though, so that stopped. But now, we're having actual meetings in the chapel! ...But it's really not that different from Zoom meetings, except that, since we're inside in public, we have to wear masks. And we don't get to sing! I'll be glad when we can sing in church again. At least let me play organ prelude music! I promise I don't breathe any harder when I'm playing the organ.

So there are masks and social distancing, and specific directions about where to sit, and which doors were the entrance and which were the exit. It wasn't any more intimidating than the grocery stores have become, so I didn't mind it too much. It was really nice to see how happy everybody was to be able to be together at church again.

Later, we got invited to dinner at a new friend's house. A friend so new, in fact, that we'd actually never met her before. But the full-time missionaries in our ward thought we'd like her, so they asked us to reach out to her, so I texted her on Saturday, and the next thing we knew, she was inviting us to dinner. The elders were there, too, and it really helped to have someone we'd met before. We had a great time talking about Disneyland and movies and how cynical we are. She had some friends over who also added some fascinating conversation about how there's no good sushi in Southern California anymore, and the amazingness of MacDonald's in Dubai.

And we ended up staying until midnight, so that had us going, "Yeah, no, we're not going to work tomorrow." Instead we slept, did the scripture study we didn't have time for yesterday, and played video games. But then our neighbor Charlise went and got lost, and we had a gift for her, so we spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find her, and by the time we did, it was bedtime! But we still wanted to watch a show. So we did, and then there was a lot to read on the internet, and now here we are, up late again. Oh well.

Today I'm thankful for getting to go to in-person church, getting to meet a new friend, getting to play Splatoon with Grawp, getting to eat Girl Scout cookies, and getting to sleep in this morning.
