A literary sort of day

Today has been chock-full of reading! Tadah! I mean, we pretty much knew it would be, what with our weekly Harry Potter reading, and oh my goodness, that one was dramatic, because we just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I don't remember being hit that hard by the ending the first time I read it, but I really didn't remember anything from the first time I read it, so there's no telling. Athena remembers that she was crying, because she read it before me and she was hiding in the other room. I do seem to remember knowing, or having a very strong idea, what was coming. Spoilers, they are impossible to avoid.

We also read the Book of Mormon! Tadah! At the women's session of General Conference last weekend, President Nelson challenged us all to read it again before the year is out, and the book is not of insignificant length, so it takes a bit of dedication. (On the other hand, it's not even as long as the last three Harry Potter books (individually), but it does have smaller print and a lot less dialogue.) President Nelson also suggested marking all the parts where it mentions the Savior, and since He's the God of the Old Testament, that means pretty much every time the book mentions God. I think one of the purposes of this exercise is to remind us all exactly how much the Book of Mormon focuses on Jesus, because there are several sections where Athena and I have pages that are now entirely covered in highlighter.

We did also go to church of course, and we watched another episode of that new TV show, "God Friended Me." At this point, it's actually a little hard to tell if it's written by religious people or people who really do want to start a dialogue between people of faith and people of...not-faith? I didn't want to just say "atheists," because it sounds dismissive, but I'm worried that the alternative is worse now. I'm sorry, people! At any rate, it's generally a show about helping people and doing good in the world, so either way, we're enjoying it.

Today I'm thankful for getting to read more Harry Potter, getting to read some cool stuff in the Book of Mormon, having a fun TV show to watch, Page hanging out with us while we read, and having my own testimony of the gospel.
