See the good

The good news (for us) is that we finished all of our work for the week, and can take tomorrow off! The bad news is I don't know what to write about today. I've kind of got UQ Holder! on the brain right now, so maybe I'll talk about that a little.

Let's see...I don't understand why apparently so many Negima! fans dislike it, but I guess that's because Tota isn't your typical Ken Akamatsu hero. You don't read Ken Akamatsu manga because you're looking for a typical shounen series. On the other hand, a lot of the series does seem to be typical Akamatsu...I think? Mostly, we like the well-rounded character development and the fact that Akamatsu-sensei seems to have a firm hold on the world he's created. He may not know the details of where the story is going, but he definitely has a general idea of the destination.

And oh my goodness, the art in the latest chapter! So many pretty pictures to look at. I always did like Ken Akamatsu's art style...although there was a time toward the end of Negima! where Negi started to have way too feminine a waistline. We haven't seen that as much in UQ Holder!, most likely because of different clothing styles.

Anyway, we like Tota a lot. What can I say? We like optimists. One of the reasons we really like a lot of manga is that there are so many protagonists who like to look for the good in the world. Around the time we started translating this series, we really needed reminders to do that ourselves, so Tota came along at just the right time.

...Well, that's about all I can think of right now. Karin and Kuromaru are both really awesome, too.

Oh, and since we're thinking about it and it was a thing in Crunchyroll's most recent release...we didn't really want to have Evangeline call Negi "boya." We were sorely tempted to translate it to "boy." But ultimately, consistency trumps all, just like Xigbar and his stupid surfer dude attitude, so we kept it in. That's how it was in Negima!, so that's how it is in UQ Holder!.

Today I'm thankful for another great chapter of UQ Holder!, getting enough work done to take the day off tomorrow, promises that the card machine at the laundry facility will be working tomorrow, neighbors who are kind enough to let us borrow laundry cards, and honey roasted peanuts.
