Standard time

Wow, today feels so surreal. There are two main reasons for this. First, we're back on standard time, so even though it's only five o'clock, it's super super dark. And second, we spent a long time reading a commentary on the Twilight books through a link provided by more_dragoncelt (thanks!), which, like I said, was long. And the fact that it's suddenly super super dark makes it feel like it was longer than it was. And everything just feels... well, mostly just later, actually. I guess it really is mostly the return to standard time. I wonder if they moved it back so kids would have more daylight hours for trick-or-treating.

We had a pretty awesome testimony meeting in church today. One of the counselors in the bishopric (the one who didn't already serve a mission with his wife in Russia) got called with his wife to serve a mission in... a country that speaks Spanish (I know that doesn't narrow it down much, but I really don't remember. the point is they'll be speaking Spanish). So they've been taking Spanish lessons from a tutor. And today his wife got up and bore her testimony in Spanish. It was pretty awesome, because they haven't even left and gotten their whole "learning by immersion" thing done, and she did pretty well. She did get stuck in a few places, but I was very impressed. They only got the call a few weeks ago, I think. Maybe a couple of months? (You can tell I wasn't paying that much attention. Eheh.) Anyway, it was a pretty short time, and she's I think in at least her fifties, and the point I'm trying to make is that you're never too old to learn a new language. So that was pretty neat.

I was trying to think of what all else I wanted to talk about, and that led into a discussion of Vaan's English dub voice in Final Fantasy XII. We don't like it much, you see. The lines are all good, in our opinions, so we don't think it was the fault of a poor translation, but he's just annoying in English. Although we are super impressed with the voice of Ba' was his name spelled? Guy who's always after Balthier. He has this crazy weird voice, but the way he delivers all the lines--not only do they have the right emotion, but they match the characters movements and everything! It's like super whoa. We've noticed that in a lot of stuff that it seems kind of hard to focus on an accent or a weird voice and act at the same time. We're also still endlessly entertained by the fact that Basch is played by the same actor as Blooregard Q. Kazoo. Is there anybody out there yet who can make that connection and be amused with us? Because believe me, it is HI-larious.

Today I'm thankful for maintenance guys who like their jobs, that extra hour to sleep in (or stay up and play more FF12; whichever), lots of extra Halloween candy (we got exactly zero trick-or-treaters), the Moogling, and people talking to us in the library today.
