Cats are crazy

But I'm sure you all knew that already.

So whenever we have ice cream, Mimsy will find out and then proceed to stare like a vulture at the people eating ice cream, occasionally licking her lips for emphasis. When the ice cream is vanilla, I figure it's like normal cream, only cold, and old ladies give that to cats in cartoons all the time, so I don't mind sharing with her. The problem is that I get impatient wanting to eat my ice cream while I wait for her to daintily lick the little bit of ice cream off my spoon. And when she's done, she keeps staring at me until I give her more.

Not that I can't handle her staring at me; just that I don't want to be selfish.

So tonight we tried something different. We got out an extra sundae cup and put about a spoonful of ice cream inside it, just for her. But she would have none of that. She insisted that the ice cream come from one of our sundaes, the punk. She seriously would not eat the ice cream we got out specially for her. I did end up sharing a little of my ice cream with her, but not as much as usual. And then Oreo came out and ate most of Mimsy's ice cream, and since he was willing to eat it, he deserved it. But I did feel a little sad for Mimsy, not getting as much. She brought it upon herself though.

Today, our Sunday school teacher decided he wanted to raise class participation. He said he realized that, maybe people are just shy, and that's why they're not participating. So he suggested that if anyone had a comment and was too shy to say it outloud, he had his cell phone, and they could text message him. He didn't write his number on the board, though, because he's only allowed a hundred text messages a month.

The lesson was on the Creation, and so someone texted and asked which came first--the chicken or the egg. Then Athena and I pointed out that, since the fowls of the air and the sea creatures were created the day before the land creatures, that depends on if chickens, being flightless, counted as fowls of the air. And then everyone was like, "That's too complicated." And that's how we realized why we ourselves don't participate in class.

We talked about it some more amongst ourselves after they decided we were too confusing, and decided that, obviously, if everything was created spiritually first, the chicken would have come first anyway, but then we started wondering if it was decided what an animal's reproductive system would be like before going on to the next animal... and then we decided we didn't care anymore.

Anyway, tonight I'm thankful for intellectual discussion, crazy kitties, cookie crumb ice cream topping, salt, and video game cut scenes.

What a difference a half an hour makes.

We've been trying to be more efficient, since we've noticed that, while we do almost nothing during the day, somehow, we don't have enough time to do it. The first step: setting the alarm for half an hour earlier. We stay in bed much too long, and it's certainly not from lack of sleep.

So today the alarm went off half an hour earlier, and even though we still let it go off three times before actually getting up, we had an extra half hour. And it felt like we had a lot more time. It would be easier to gauge if it helped with our efficiency if we'd actually done anything, though. I guess we'll see what happens when we get to work on CLAMP no Kiseki, which hasn't arrived yet. If it doesn't come today, we might just finish +ANIMA anyway and make sure to take a day off between CLAMP no Kiseki 10 and 11.

Also, in the interest of being more efficient, we thought it might be neat to work on crafty type things while watching the myriad of TV shows we can't bring ourselves to stop watching (I just can't give up Jeopardy!). We could then potentially sell said crafty type things on... I don't know eBay or somewhere, and make some extra money. Maybe there are some scrapbookers in the ward who would like a unique rubber stamp.

Speaking of rubber stamps, since Athena makes such pretty ones, we thought we would show some of them off. We don't have a digital camera, so we can't prove that they're made from erasers (you'll just have to take our word for it), but we can stamp them on to a piece of paper and scan them.

Why Satoshi and Risa, of all DN Angel characters? Well, Satoshi is our favorite (unless we like Daisuke or Dark better; it's a mood thing), and Risa was just the best one for showing off detail. The erasers she makes the stamps from are only about 2.25 inches by 1 inch, so it's pretty impressive that she got all those details in there.

I guess we could have just had separate pictures of the best stamping of each stamp, but I thought it would serve as better evidence that they're stamps and not scans of a kanji guide or something if we had all the fadey Tamahome ones. She actually made the whole set of Suzaku Seishi symbols, but we lost Tasuki, sadly. We can only hope he made it to Fresno with us, though I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to stay in Glendale. She really needs to make Amiboshi and Suboshi so we can use them for cosplay. Then we'd have to buy some blue ink. Hmm... Well, there's plenty of time before AX. I really want to upgrade to Kaika and Sairo Suboshi.

Also, for today, we decided to try ramen again, since we're poor and ramen is about the cheapest food in the world. And then we realized that we could very easily starve to death in Japan. No matter. Even Zero was afraid of zero gravity (no pun intended; see The Candidate for Goddess for details). And we have Baby Ruths to reward ourselves for trying sort of new food (they were on sale--four for a dollar!), so it all works out.

Unfortunately for Oreo, by the time he got down from my bed to join us, we'd already poured out all the extra broth that we weren't going to eat (drink?), so now he'll be haunted by the smell for a while, and not be able to partake of... um... ramen broth. Sometimes, I feel like I'm starting to sound all clever, and then it goes away. Like when Goku was trying to explain why the others were losing at Mahjong (see volume 9).

And I really wasn't planning to have so many shameless plugs; it just kind of worked out that way. There is a reason we wanted to translate those serieses so much, after all. And that's because we're so obsessed with them that we're constantly alluding to them in our heads. And now on LiveJournal.

After the trial cometh the blessing

Family Home Evening for some reason was extremely boring today. Maybe I was extremely boring today; usually I can keep myself entertained even if I choose not to participate in the activity. But for some reason, today I was exceedingly bored, and then the activity refused to stop. They got a couple from a different stake to come teach people swing dancing, and just when we thought that everyone was done and they were dispersing, the chick was teaching everyone a new step. So not only was I bored, but the thing wouldn't end.

But it turned out to be a good thing, because one of the guys who came to get refreshments was wearing a shirt with kanji on it. So I read his shirt, and then we got to talking about Japanese, even though technically his shirt was in Chinese. And then another guy came in who apparently was really in to Japanese and from what people said later he apparently tried to teach himself, so we got to feel all kinds of smart. And then we ran into a girl who... has some kind of relationship with him, though we have no idea if she's related or a girlfriend or what, and she loves Japan too, and she was very cute and very excited about various things, including Disneyland.

So we got to have a very nice conversation, and we ended up feeling guilty about making our ride home wait for us, but she seemed to be perfectly fine, and even suggested we invite the new girl to the anime get-together we just arranged for Friday. Unfortunately, this idea was not thought of until we had parted ways, so we'll just have to invite the new girl to the next one, which will hopefully be less than five months in the future.

And tonight I'm thankful for tea ring cookies, new friends, being able to share anime with people, swing music, and the Japanese language.
