We managed to finish work without too much trouble, but it was a bit of a struggle. Thankfully, we were on a first draft today, so it was okay not to use too much brain power. We tried catching up on the Fire Force anime after that and it was a struggle to stay awake. I'm going to blame action sequences, because we have such a hard time staying engaged when it's all fighting and no banter. ...There was a fair amount of science-y exposition, too, which I decided to check out on, because we'd already dealt with it in the manga; we knew the gist of it.
Then we decided to check out the French dub of Once Upon a Time. That managed to keep us awake much better; I'm really not sure why, especially because it reminded us just how awful that show is. Of course, it has just enough interesting elements to have me going, "Oh yeah, I wonder how that turned out..." But the characters are all so...I don't even know. But we did get to hear the voice of Chat Noir as Peter Pan, and that was kind of weird. I mean, he did a great job, but Adrien...I mean, Marinette says he doesn't have an evil bone in his body and she's 100% correct. Once Upon a Time's Peter Pan, on the other hand...
After that, we probably should have just gone to bed, but we were determined not to! We wanted to do fun stuff, and if we went to bed, we'd have to wake up and work first. ...Not that anything is quite as fun when you're struggling to stay awake... I think what we need is juice.
I also wonder if it's some lingering effects of burnout, and if that's the same reason anime has a tendency to put us to sleep these days. Like, our brains are like, "Oh, is this animated and in Japanese? I've had quite enough of that, thanks. Zzzzzz..." It probably didn't help that it was a story we'd already translated.
Today I'm thankful for making it through the day, having juice to hopefully help us tomorrow, having our curiosity about the French dub of Once Upon a Time satisfied, being caught up on Fire Force, and it being time to sleep soon.
