He is risen!

Athena reminded me today that a friend of ours who went on a mission to Russia once told us that on Easter Sunday, everyone there (in Russia) greets each other with "He is risen!" by way of "hello," and I thought that was pretty neat, so I wanted to do it, too.

I think many years ago I had a nice, articulate post about why I think Easter is the best, but I feel like I have a harder time expressing my feelings in a coherent way these days. I'm pretty sure that's because I'm too tired to form coherent thoughts to express, and I don't feel the need to, because I know they've been expressed before. But that was a really long time ago, and it never hurts to express things again. Nevertheless, it is kind of hard for me.

I think the song "I Stand All Amazed" is close to how I feel about Easter. Anyone who knows us probably won't think we have any kind of self-esteem issues, and I'm still pretty sure that we don't. But despite thinking of ourselves as pretty darn awesome, we also have enough self-awareness to know that we may be a bit of an acquired taste, which is to say, we don't have a lot of faith in the idea that other people love us. So when I think about how Jesus Christ went out of His way to suffer for me, to take away my sins and make it possible for me to return to Him, I really do feel all amazed. And grateful. So I try to do what I can to live up to the expectations He put in me by doing that for me, but I admit I still have a long way to go.

Still, today is Easter! The day we celebrate His victory over death and sin, and made it possible for ALL of us to have a happy ending! And that's very exciting indeed.

As for how we celebrated... First, our stake presidency put together a little broadcast, and I admit that at first we were annoyed because it meant we had a deadline to pull ourselves out of bed by. But we were awake in time anyway (it started at eleven, and since it was a broadcast, we didn't even have to make ourselves presentable), and then! they started it with a sing-along of one of my favorite Easter hymns, "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today," so it started on a high note, and it was pretty good all around.

Then we thought it would be good to have even more Easter music, so Athena pulled out her whistles and an ocarina, and we played some Easter songs. It was a really good time, and a reminder that it would be good to do some cardio to improve breathing abilities...

Later, Grawp called and we ended up playing Pokemon for a couple of hours. That was an unexpected occurrence for a normal Sunday, let alone Easter. But of course we'll never turn down an opportunity to hang out with our nephew, and we got to trade some more Pokemon. He caught us a Jangmo-o, and my goodness, those things are adorable.

After that, we did our Come Follow Me studies, we had some Easter chocolate (including Kinder Joy!), and then we pulled out the BYUtv app to see if there was something Eastery to watch. The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square recorded a special Easter concert, so we started to watch that, but then it turned out we just are not cultured enough. I don't know what it is, but Mack Wilberg's arrangements just don't click with us. So instead, we watched a new BYU show called Artful, where they pretty much interview artists. It was an interesting look into how different people get their inspiration and what their thoughts are that they put into their work.

Then we watched couple episodes of Story Trek, and now here we are! Tadah!

Today I'm thankful for getting to spend time with family on Easter, getting to watch a lovely worship service, having a Jangmo-o, getting to eat more Kinder Joy chocolate, and Easter and everything that it represents.
