Book of Life

After we watched Coco last week, it had us interested in seeing the other movie we'd heard of that's related to El Dia de los Muertos, The Book of Life. I don't know why exactly we thought of it; maybe we were just wandering around lost, in the face of no new Miraculous episodes. ...Actually, yeah, that is part of what happened. Last night, we were like, "Well, if there's no new Miraculous, I guess we can watch a movie or something." But I don't know what reminded us of the movie's existence, because it's not on Netflix.

Anyway, we used our fancy Amazon TV to search all the apps for it, and turns out it's available to rent via Amazon. For some reason we opted not to watch it last night, but there was still no new Miraculous today, so we figured why not. We didn't hate Trollhunters and 3Below, after all, and those came from Guillermo del Toro, too.

Long story short, oh my goodness, you guys, that movie is so good!! Like, I really had no idea what I was expecting, and we'd pretty much lost faith in movies in general, so I'm pretty sure I was hoping for okay at best, but dang, I really liked it! I mean, the characters actually talked to each other and were interesting and everything! Okay, so the characters in Coco were interesting, I guess, but for some reason they also weren't. I admit Miguel's premise could have been interesting. And Hector's whole thing was kind of interesting, but they could only talk about it in vague hints because it was supposed to be all mysterious and stuff, and because Miguel only cares about himself. The characters in Book of Life all cared about other people. It was pretty awesome.

I don't really have a whole lot else to say about it, but I will say that I adored the twins' costumes, and we're kind of bummed that it's right after Halloween, because now we have to wait a whole year to think about cosplaying them. On the other hand, that's probably how long it would take to get any costumes done at the rate we've been going, so maybe it's a good thing. Or maybe we'll forget all about it.

Oh! And I just remembered! We found out last night that Kodansha announced the simulpub of Hiro Mashima's big crossover manga, Hero's, on Wednesday, so now we can tell everybody we translate it! Tadah! And that's why we've been reading the Rave Master manga. Amazon Unlimited only has the first 18 volumes, so there's a good chance we'll drift away from it once we get that far, but I might be a little bummed about it. The story's really interesting!

Today I'm thankful for getting to see a super good animated movie, getting to translate another cool manga, getting to eat some tasty chocolate lover's cookies, getting to watch Glaciator again, and Page being so cute all curled up in her hooded cat bed.
