In the meantime, we have two projects due by the end of the year, and one of them is taking a lot longer than seems reasonable. It's been announced, so I can probably talk about it, but I still don't know for sure, so all I will say is that it's an anime movie. That's right, we are translating an anime movie script! We don't know what the whole process is going to be; just that they sent us a script and we're supposed to translate it. Is it for subtitles, is it for a dub? We don't know. What we do know is that we did not expect it to take this long. But maybe we should have, because when we read through the script, I was like, "Oh hey, there's not a lot of dialogue; this should go by in a snap!"
But what happens when there's not dialogue? There's action! And when you translate an anime script, they appreciate it if you translate the descriptions of the action. And it's kind of tricky, because you can picture it in your head, but without actually seeing the visuals, sometimes they can be hard to describe. I'm so worried that we're going to watch the movie, and the subtitles will be exactly what we wrote, but now that we'll have the visuals, we'll be like, "Aaarrrrgh, it should have been this way!" ...Oh wait, that has more to do with the dialogue than describing the action. But the danger(?) is still real!
Anyway. That being the case, the logical thing would be to get back to work to make sure we can finish on time, and maybe we'll do that after dinner, but it's so exhausting I just want to stop for the night. I think we probably can finish it by our deadline without too much trouble anyway, but it might not leave us enough time to finish the other project before it's due. Eh heh heh. I feel like it should be easy to get an extension on that one, but I'm not sure if that would be taking advantage of...something. I don't know. We'll try not to need an extension. ...But maybe not tonight. We'll see.
Today I'm thankful for one of our packages being ahead of schedule, the opportunity to translate an anime movie, getting to try Batman cereal (it's chocolate strawberry, but it's not very good (it's okay if you hate sugar, but...)), finally getting our bearings on how to translate this script (we think), and it being time for dinner.
