Today has been a day of mixed feelings. As I said yesterday, we realized last night that we were going to have to take the train to Fresno to see Gaston in his show. The annoying thing about this is that there had been talk of Gaston coming to visit, and then we'd get to ride up in a car, all the while singing Beauty and the Beast songs and enjoying lively discussion. There might also be a trip to Joe's Italian Ice and/or the ice cream parlor Gaston keeps telling us about. We were looking forward to it, and now that it's not happening, we were pretty bummed. We haven't entirely given up on the ice cream idea, though.

So we had to figure out if we wanted to hop on a train today or tomorrow, and ultimately we decided on tomorrow because nobody seemed too eager to see us right away and we had a ton of work to do anyway. And that's why we're still here today.

Things of note: I noticed that we hadn't seen the kitten's mother around much lately, except that when we went to the orthodontist on Tuesday, she was in the neighbor's patio, which meant she's still hanging out in the area. Today we went to the grocery store and on the way out, we discovered why she seems to have been in hiding. There are two more, much tinier kittens in there now. This place is turning into a veritable kitten factory! I know the neighbors are trying to figure out how to catch her to get her fixed, though, so hopefully we will not have to worry about feline overpopulation.

...I think that's the only thing of note. I still have Yume Twins boxes to talk about, but we have a complicated refrigeration situation going on, which mostly just means we have to get a frozen pizza out and cook it now so we can put the ice cream back in the freezer before it liquidates. This is the problem with buying a miniature refrigerator.

Today I'm thankful for having our travel plans mostly worked out (we get to have a new bus adventure tomorrow), getting to make a CD Japan order, king-sized candy bars being on sale, frozen pizzas, and finding a bus that will take us straight to a train station without having to worry about transfers.

MORE KITTENS!!!! Your icon just keeps getting more and more real. Wow. I want to be there now because the only kittens I've gotten to see this year were facebook memories that kept popping up (I only shared one of them) from last year when the stray my friend's family started feeding had surprise kittens one day on their porch. They ended up keeping the mama and one kitten as outdoor cats and I get to visit them still now and then, but... fresh baby kittens! Do you (general you, not specific) have to wait till the kittens are old enough to be weaned, before getting the mother fixed...? Is there a local place that does low cost/free operations for strays?

Glad your travel plans are worked out and that the route sounds fairly straightforward! I hope you have a good visit together once you get there :D

I know, right!? We think the new ones are like super newborn, because they were ridiculously tiny. I don't know if you have to wait for the kittens to be weaned, but that's kind of a scary thought, because the tomcats in our neighborhood... Anyway, the one time I talked to the neighbor about it, she mentioned something about getting vouchers for the operation, but I don't know any more about it than that.

And thanks!

Hmmm. I'd imagine there's a gap before cats can get pregnant again after giving birth to a litter. But it may be tight... (or maybe nonexistant, I just found one website that said they can be fertile again as soon as their kittens are born. goodness.) I also came across this which seems to have a variety of info and may be a good resource to share with your neighbours? (maybe they're already looking into stuff themselves too.) They recommend waiting till the kittens can eat some food on their own (so that they can go a day or two w/o mother while she's having surgery; she can still supply milk afterward.) http://www.spayandstay.org/faq/

I can't help my curiosity—do you know what colours the new kittens are? Ahhh, tiny cat babies, I just want to spend all day with them...

Yeah, I figured it was pretty much the same as with humans. Thanks for the info!

Well, we haven't seen them since we got back from Fresno, so we're starting to wonder if we dreamed the whole thing, but assuming we didn't, one of them is another gray tabby and the other is black with white socks.
